New High-Tech City of Cyberjaya
Located in the South-East region of Malaysia, the New High-Tech City of Cyberjaya was launched in September 2015. With a capacity of 210,000 residents, this new high-tech city is divided into four main zones namely education, residential, retail, and business. The infrastructure of the city is high-tech and includes a 100% digital fiber optic backbone operated by centrally managed server rooms. The city has an integrated urban management system known as the Cyberjaya City Command Centre. This system has launched key flagship applications including MyKad (a high technology personal identification system), e-government, e-business, telehealth, and smart school.
The government has mandated the company Cyberia Sen Bhp to promote investments in the new high-tech city. Besides being the owner of Cyberjaya's land, the company also manages the city center initiative. It also collaborates with COMOS and sets up charging stations for electric vehicles. In November, Cyberia adopted a Renault Zoe all-electric vehicle. The new high-tech city is expected to generate more than a million jobs within a decade.
As a green initiative, the New High-Tech City of Cyberjaya will be a world-class technology hub, with a gross development value of RM9 billion when the project is completed in 8 to 15 years. The development will be a major step forward in revitalizing Malaysia's ICT hub. It will include a 400-meter-long walkalator, a new mosque, and a 500-bed public hospital.
The South Innovation Zone of Cyberjaya is currently being marketed to investors. This area is a wide zone, and the government is eager to make it the global technology hub it wants to be. The success of the city's ambition to be a global tech hub rests on its ability to implement the Global Tech Hub Blueprint, a framework for fostering entrepreneurial and SME ecosystems to drive the city's economic growth. The Cyberjaya Masterplan has proposed a few key projects for the area. One such project is the development of a city center. This project will serve as the central focus of Cyberjaya and its surrounding area, encompassing 30-50km.
A digital maker hub is designed to encourage STEM education, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving. Incentives for tech companies in Cyberjaya include tax exemptions of up to 100% for up to 10 years, capital allowances, double deductions, and competitive Ramped. Additionally, companies are granted exemptions from local regulatory bodies. Futurize, the agency that administers the National Regulatory Sandbox, aims to speed up regulatory intervention.
