As part of one of my honours projects this year, I decided to design for the Penguin Book Competition. I chose the adult fiction book “Girl, Women, Other” by Bernardine Evaristo. I was inspired by many patterns originating from many west African countries I chose those to demonstrate how many of the characters had ties to Africa and was a significant part of their identities. I took this inspiration and combined it with the concept of community and connection, by way of paper chain men. This was an effective method for demonstrating how the characters' stories are intertwined and how they are all connected in some way.
