'irrational Graphs' was a project that focused on the overall aesthetic over any concept.

I focused on making the end result as close to a Casio Fx-CG50 calculator as possible.

The process was as follows:

I set up the workbench with an image of the calculator I found off of some shopping sites. I could model certain parts by using my calculator as a reference but I needed a good image for the front. This calculator is also split into two main pieces with a line of blue plastic in between, so to begin the base of the device, I created the black plastic area first and then created the more angular white plastic.

I then moved on to making the buttons. The modelling for the convex and concave buttons was pretty straightforward, but for the function buttons, I ended up using booleans since those buttons were engraved with their functions.

Quickly creating materials and making the screen for the calculator, mainly because it helps me work faster when I see this level of completion in one of my projects.

Using booleans to add the grooves on which the calculator cover attaches, the holes for the ports on top of the calculator and then creating the main arrow keys.

With most of the work on the calculator done, I had to get started on custom textures for the buttons and procedural materials for the black plastic and certain areas.

I used 'Vectro' from Dafont.com as the main font for most of the calculator buttons, with a few custom modelled symbols and 'Birds Of Paradise' for the cursive bits.

I then used text and shrinkwrapped it to the mesh to create the stickers above each button.

With most of the project done, it was just a matter of using some vector art over an image I had taken for the calculator screen. I made a sketch and used some verses from my poetry. I put it together on Figma and used the images I exported as the calculator screen. Not all the poetry made the cut since I asked for feedback and chose the three most popular test renders to develop as the final pieces.
