IT Quality Hackathon Branding

IT Quality Hackathon Branding

Crafting brand identity and marketing materials for internal, IT Quality Hackathon with over 500 global participants. Inaugural enterprise company global event focused on celebrating and prioritizing quality.  I completed all project management, branding, and marketing execution.

Design Process
My management and the vice president reached out to me with a proposal to build and design an event focused on quality, (outside of my normal job as a software developer). Before building the brand materials, I defined my planning process and interviewed key stakeholders to learn more about their goals. Knowing their expectations and goals helped to greatly informed my work.
Cultivate a Vision
What are the event goals and objectives? Who are my stakeholders and target audience? What is my branding strategy?
These are the key questions I sought to answer through stakeholder alignment sessions and questionnaires. The outcome was the event mission statement we all aligned on.
Design Process
I drew inspiration from the Dell Diamond, a baseball stadium branded by Dell Technologies in Austin, Texas. Hackathons are team-oriented in nature, and with an emphasis on quality, I wanted to use recurring themes to encourage members to join together to solve problems.

Typography
To select a typeface, I drew inspiration from Baseball Tees. These logos and products are typically represented with stripes on the sleeves and a central chest design. Many times they use strong, bold serifs. Through my type research, I landed on Herchey Serif for its character legibility and accompanying flourishes.
Color Palette & Brand Elements
Using a simplified palette from the Dell Design System, I built out the following brand palette and materials:
Build a Team
Who can best represent and execute this initiative? How does leading this event create value for them?
THE POWER OF 3! I reached out to quality leaders across our global organization to assemble a core team in each of the three largest global sites.
Identify Partnerships
Once I had leaders in place, I began aligning with other resources to carry out the brand and event details.
Evaluate Success
Did my event create value for the business and for the participants? How can I best measure this?
Howard Elias, chief customer officer and president of Services and Digital at Dell Technologies, shared his thoughts about the event internally.

We also received excellent metrics below that we could share with the teams and our stakeholders:
