The facade for the outdoor theatre complex is designed to serve as the backdrop to historical plays based on the medieval monuments of Delhi. Employing traditional elements like the jaali, jharokha & chattri, the retrofit facade is wrapped around a conventional concrete post & beam structure. Random rubble masonry, given a weathered look and sand plastered in some areas, combines with sandstone cladding and sandblasted granite columns to give the building a crumbling look well suited to the outdoorplays to be staged here. Openings are glazed with toughened glass, and the facade is in stark contrast to the modern interiors that house offices, retail and the auditorium, adding a degree of theatricality to the experience of visiting this building in the heart of the city.
