GIFTING TYPOGRAPHY: BOOKLET PROJECT
INTRODUCTION
My final project in Art 230 - Typography was to create a booklet based on a General Conference talk to give as a gift.  I needed to use typographic solutions for all the pages.  I could use one photo (of the speaker of the talk I chose) and a minimum of three colors.  As well, I needed to consider my audience (who would be receiving this gift).
Entire booklet in six spreads
The image above shows all six spreads side by side.  I needed to consider consistency and how they flowed together to engage my audience.
Breakdown of each spread
Booklet Cover, Inside Cover, and Page 1
The recipient of this gift will be the Young Women at my branch.  I chose to use four colors: pink, lavender, orange, and teal green.  For the cover, I used Century Gothic regular for the first four words of the title and then the last word, "story," was in Bembo Book MT Pro bold italic.  I used the word "story" in different fonts (Baskerville MT Pro semibold, Centaur MT Pro bold, and Egyptian Slate Std black) and different saturation levels behind the title words.  The meaning for this was that while we each have a story, those stories are varied and different.

The inside back cover was a quote from the story set in Bodoni MT Std black.  I really like how this font in its black style is classy and quirky at the same time.

Page 1 begins with the title in Century Gothic bold and the speaker and date of the talk in Century Gothic regular for continuity with the cover and to provide hierarchy.  The main body text was set in Avenir Next LT Pro regular, a sans serif typeface, for its easy readability.  I used Baskerville MT Pro semibold italic for the block quote.
Booklet Cover, Page 2, and Page 3
Page 2 continues with Baskerville MT Pro semibold for the block quote and Century Gothic for the second quote since it was repeated in the talk and was the title of the talk.
Booklet Cover, Page 4, Page 5
Page 4 includes another block quote in Baskerville MT Pro semibold italic.  The block quote on page 5 I did differently.  I wanted to highlight specific words, so I used a larger size Avenir Next LT Pro demi for most of the quote and then used different styles of Baskerville MT Pro to set off the words "families," "happy," and "forever."
Booklet Cover, Page 6, Page 7
Page 6 presented a unique situation with the speaker numbering his thoughts.  The font on that page is all Avenir Next LT Pro with the subheading being in bold, the main body text regular, the prayer at the end in demi, and the less saturated numbers in bold and behind the body text.

Page 7 also presented a unique situation for a block quote.  The quote discusses looking into two mirrors and seeing your image reflected back and forth.  I put the quote in the middle of the overlapping circles and then "reflected" the text in the upper and lower circles.  The quote is in Egyptian Slate Std bold.  However, I just realized I did not change the "reflected" text to a course-provided font.
Booklet Cover, Page 8, Inside Back Cover
Page 8 contains "related content," footnotes and links for the talk.  I used Avenir Next LT Pro demi for the page heading and Avenir Next LT Pro for the body text.

For the inside back cover, to be consistent with the inside cover, I used Bodoni MT Std black, filled in white and outlined in black to stand out against the circles of different colors.
Back Cover and Front Cover
On the back cover, I added an inscription of sorts.  I set this in Century Gothic bold since the main body text was in Avenir Next LT Pro.
CONCLUSION
Creating this booklet as a gift was a wonderful learning experience.  I received the blessings of learning new techniques to make something beautiful from a beautiful talk.  Giving this as a gift means the blessings will be passed along to lovely Young Women.
