King Caruti Chess Board
When I was young, my dad would teach me how to play chess. He has his own board since he was a kid. So when it was time to think of a project to do I called my dad up for ideas, this is when I thought about making a chess board. This was a challenge because it was my first time working with wood so I was learning on the go in the 4 hour time slot we had. Making this chess board was special to me because I cherish the memories I have with my dad playing on his, so hopefully I can do the same for my son.
To make the chest board I first had to stain half of the wood I was using to get a contrast on the lighter wood. After that, I measured to 1 1/2 inches wide and ripped the 4 wood boards, then I chopped them to 16 inches long. Once I had my 4 dark and 4 light pieces of wood I glued them together alternating the colors. Once the glue dried, I cut the board to where each strip had 1 light and 1 dark color going down. Finally, I glued the 8 strips of wood together giving the famous chess board look.
