Concept
According to Hindu culture, Guests are considered equivalent to God, and given a place higher than everyone, they are worshipped as their idols are placed on a higher Godsplatform(Chawki). So designing ottoman as the furniture for their chawk area was thought to be appropriate as the client family loves hospitality. The furniture will add informal and warm feel in the chawk making it more lively.
Studying a 200 year old heritage pole house in Ahmedabad. Gujarat, learning about the family, their values, their lifestyle, their community and the whole of the Gujarati culture and designing a piece of Furniture that fits perfectly in their life style and their Home. The cushion seating gives a very welcoming feel and the rich combination of colour gives a very authentic hindu feeling.
OTTOMAN_ Techincal Details
The furniture structure is made entire of wood, set together through wooden joineries like tenon and mortise and half lap. It has three different components, the corner piece_ made out of a single piece of wood carved in traditional fashion to give it a form of a leg and a mortise for a side tenon member to fit them into it and the filling members in the center joint through half lap joint on which the cushioning sits.
