The first mass production mid-engine car built by an American automaker. The Fiero was one of GM’s few successes in its competition against automakers like Toyota and Mazda. Mismanagement and a bungled recall for engine fires damaged the Fiero’s reputation and led the second generation to be cancelled, leaving the category to the MR2 and newly released Miata.
