Somewhere near the edge of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, in Tikamgarh, bell metal casting has been practiced for about three to four centuries. From canons and war weapons for kings and soldiers, to bullock carts and cattle bells for the farmer, metal smiths here crafted almost every object of need and desire.
They are known for precise geometrical shapes and motifs, their metal pieces are sculpted by using lost wax casting in the usual way.
The craft not only radiates the creativity of the artists but also tells so much about the state with stories that are infused in every masterpiece.
This collection is blend of age old craft techniques and new age design. For the piece above, it’s created in way to look alike jewellery for curtain, motifs on this piece are all from Tikamgrah craft cluster, which has been created with the use of wooden stamp. There are घुंगरू hanged, just to add some music whenever there is a wind like a wind chime.
This product is designed to give a visual of elephant peek behind the curtain. A heart shaped motif on this forehead is age old stamp, which these artisans of Tikamgrah use very often. Trunk of an elephant was moulded round so that it can hold drapes of curtain.
