The Nichete
I have been always fascinated by blacksmithing and blade making, so for this hackathon I decided to use the lab's forge to make a knife. This was my first time working with metal to this degree but I watched a lot of videos before hand so I knew techniques and how to shape the blade. Because this was my first time working a forge, there were definitely some mess ups like having so making hammer strikes on the blade I had to grind a ton to make it smooth. But during this process I learned a lot about blacksmithing so I will definitely be using the forge again. At first I wanted to make a small knife to carry around but when I was hammering, I just let the metal form to what shape it wanted to give it a unique look. After all the shaping was done I put the hot blade in water to harden it and make it strong. I then grinded out the entire blade to get rid of the hammer marks and make it look shiny. After the grinding, I put an edge on it and because of the limited time I was not able to make a handle for the blade. It turned out better, and way longer, than I excepted and letting the metal shape itself made it fun to see how it would turn out.
