Shred Like a Girl

Empowering girls, bringing skateboarding to schools.

2021 | Experience | Print | Illustration
Not every pre-teen has a phone, so we took a mostly offline approach, creating pop-up skate events at intermediate schools. The ‘travelling skate park’ is portable and modular, and will be supervised by female mentors with a ‘go at your own pace’ approach. To encourage them to continue skating after the event, they will receive an interactive and engaging zine-pack featuring competitions, inspiring skaters, tricks, local events and more. The positive impact on wellbeing is sustained through new editions of the zine monthly, as well as a positive social media page on Instagram to keep people connected.
The visual style for this project draws inspiration from skate culture and has a lo-fi, grunge feel with bright, fun illustrations. It feels non-commercial and will connect with our audience on a more genuine level. The visuals in the promotion illustrate how skating makes you feel, and promotes it as a fun, freeing and exciting activity.
