Clay Portraits
The assignment was to create three portraits from clay, modelled after classmates. I had never used clay before, and I'm not very experienced in general with creating anything in 3D, so this was very new to me. Nevertheless it was a lot of fun to work with my hands and experiment with a new medium.

Portrait #1
My first attempt at a clay portrait. At the start I struggled a lot, since I was holding the clay in my hands and I would keep accidentally squishing it while trying to give shape to the face. Thankfully I discovered at some point that setting it on a clay block instead of holding it works a lot better. Being new to this medium, I opted for a more cartoony look rather than a realistic portrait.

Portrait #2
The second portrait went a bit smoother, having learned from the mistakes from the first portrait. I started with a stand right away, and not constantly holding the clay in my hands helped me get more volume and a more natural flow in the hair, as well as a better head shape. I stuck to the cartoony style, but I did my best to add some defining features such as the eyeliner and earrings.

Portrait #3
By this point I had sort of gotten the hang of the process of getting to this cartoony style of clay portraits, as I'd finished this portrait much quicker than the previous two. It could also be due to the fact that there was less detail to work with for this portrait than the others. In hindsight I could have maybe tried a different style for the last portrait to experiment just a bit more.

Bonus content
Once I finished my third portrait, I had a bit of time (and clay) left, so I just made a couple of random other sculptures to pass the time.
