Midwestern Wisconsin Barns & Rural Countryside

Wisconsin Barns and Homesteads
Dotted throughout the Wisconsin country side are beautiful old barns and homesteads standing proud.  Some are well kept and in working order.  Others, weathered, beaten and tired.
Do You Know Why Barns Were Originally Painted Red?
The photo above was captured in Denmark, Wisconsin in late fall.  I loved how the motion in the queen annes lace that depicts the motion from the strong wind of the day.
Barns were painted by using linseed oil long ago. That gave them a reddish-orange look. Some farmers added rust to the linseed oil because it helped to kill algae and prevent it from growing on their structures. Allowing for an extended time before painting again.
What Do The Stars On Barns & Homes Mean?
Do you know why barns originally had stars?  The stars are/were  known as primitive stars and were originally made out of metal or wood by German and Dutch settlers to bring good luck and ward off evil.
Color Meaning Of The Stars
But, did you know that each colored star also represents something?

Brown = strength and friendship
Blue =  protection, peace & calmness
Black  = protection
Yellow = love to man and sun, health to the body and soul
White  =  purity power of the moon & for energy
Violet =  holy & sacred to move freely
Red =  passion, creativity and emotions
Green  = fertility growth, and success

While people assign meaning to the colors - others just think of them as a decorative accent to their home, home decor and barns. I’m in the thought process of I need to get painting the star I currently have:)  Blue or yellow sounds like a good choice to me.
Barn Quilts Are Fairly Common Today
Brown County, WI
Barn quilts in Brown, Door and Kewaunee counties are fairly popular and can be located through online maps.  The barn quilts each have their own meaning to the structure that they are placed on.

Every Sunday Is A Good Day For A Sunday Drive
Growing up I never understood my grandparents obsession with taking a Sunday drive.  I am fairly certain I have become them today.  Sunday afternoons and late evenings are the perfect time to take a drive.
When processing images, I'm always exploring new ways to give them the feeling of the day. Which, I completely understand does not follow the normal hey, this is "my style" when someone looks at my art.

I'm still learning and exploring what my processing style truly is, because the image(s) have to be processed to convey the feeling or mindset I was in on the day the image(s) were taken.  For this set I explored more in depth what tone curves and color grading can achieve.
Thank you for allowing me to share one of my Sunday drives with you!  Enjoy the rest of your day!
