Sakhi (friend, companion)

Sakhi (friend, companion) portrays the depths of female friendships in an attempt to erase the patriarchy-induced stereotype and stigma that surrounds it.
As a girl, my mind was conditioned to believe that women were trouble, that drama is their second name. My emotions as a girl were deemed unnecessary. I was led to believe that fitting in with the guys would make me different from the other girls.
And hence, would make me better than them. “I am not like the other girls”  “I only have guy friends” “Girls are too much drama” These sentences were thrown around so casually that for the longest time,  I thought I would be never able to share a deep connection with a female counterpart.
But I could feel my belief system breaking down. As I went through life and people I realised that there was a sense of understanding that I observed in no other relationship
I found comfort and safety in the company of my female friends and with each passing day, the bond grew stronger.
There’s no denying that every friendship or relationship comes with its own flaws, struggles and complications.
But one thing my friendships with women have taught me is that going through life and its ups and downs is much easier and fun when you do it with them.
