Fishing for Blue Marlin in Costa Rica

A student at Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara, California, Judson Russell Grosvenor is a world traveler and aquatic sports enthusiast. One of Judson Russell Grosvenor’s most memorable experiences was fishing and filming blue marlin off the cost of Quepos, Costa Rica.

Blue marlin, widely considered the top trophy fish in the world, can weigh as much as 500 pounds. They are strong and difficult to catch.
A migratory fish, blue marlin typically live in different waters at different times of the year. The tropical waters around Costa Rica, however, provide ideal conditions for blue marlin in all seasons.

An underwater mountain range lining the continental shelf roughly 45 minutes from the Costa Rican shoreline offers an exceptional habitat for marlin, particularly from May to November. Other areas and times to fish for marlin around Costa Rica include the North Pacific region from May to October and the Central Pacific region from November to January and from May to July.
