STAR12: Training Reports

A Note About the Application
mySTAR12 is a web-based training application (SaaS) that I’ve been the Interactive Design Lead over for the last 2.5 years. Much of the interface, information architecture, and look & feel I’ve inherited from the previous designer. The Training Reports project was a turning point of our product, tranisitioning from a content delivery system to a Learning Management System (LMS). Because it was a new feature line, I got what was nearly carte blanche interior screens or Reports.

Project Brief
Training Reports enable the user to track various aspects of product usage for themselves or for teams that they are in charge of. This feature is also offered at an organizational level (for enterprise clients), so that the company head or the HR director can track the usage of the its users. The various reports are broken down based on specific tasks in order to make the data easier to consume.

There are three primary needs for Training Reports:
- An index page of the various reports
- Configuration screens for selecting dates to report on and data filters
- An output screen for the report itself

Because this feature is available to general users, supervisors, and company administrators with varying levels of experience and comfort with technology, the feature needs to be as easy to understand and friendly as possible, while avoiding overwhelming the user with too much information or instruction.
