"An old man in Brooklyn invites some homeless prostitutes into his house on a cold winter night. They never leave. Plus other stories about houses, such as the United States Congress, where the inhabitants don't always act as they should."This American Life

During a Publication Design class taken during the Fall of 2013, I designed this book to be a companion piece to an interactive experience. The content of both the book and the experience is from a This American Life podcast entitled Houses of Ill Repute, which originally aired in February 2007.

The color palette is directly from the The American Life website, and when used within the book to represent pull quotes and additional detained copy as well at the stripped patterned featured on the inside of every page that represents wallpaper. The paper used, stipple, is representative of the walls of a home. There are additionally definitions on every page for certain words to make reading the main content easier.
