The largest problem with kitchen timers is that they are not improving. In a world that demands for product evolution and intuitive use, the IKEA kitchen timer is far behind. The purpose of the redesign was to achieve an improved involvement between the consumer and the product. To make the timer a one handed operation would allow the consumer to be flexible with other kitchen duties. And the form allows them to intuitively know the function of the timer.
