The Earth House | 2019

New Construction | Farmhouse | New Delhi | 6500 sq.ft. | 2019
Single-storey structure prefabricated in steel, assembled on site, and supported on RCC plinth beams & foundations.

No excavation was done on-site apart from the swimming pool, the earth of which was used as filling under the raised floor slab.
The lightweight steel structure allowed deep cantilevers (2.5m) all around the edge of the building as shading canopies, further allowing full height (3.3m) glazing to maintain an indoor-outdoor connection.
AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) blockwork was used for the walls for its Lightweight, Thermal & Acoustic properties.
Roofing was done in deck slab (Cement Concrete over Decking Sheet), waterproofed with PU (Polyurethane) membrane, thermally insulated and set in slope with Vermiculite, and finished with Cement Screed on top.
Glass wool insulation was installed under the slab to keep the exposed steel members from conducting heat into the house.
