DEVELOPMENT
This is a breakdown of Doom's armour to its realistic components. I started with the underarmour, working with a very flexible scalemail material that is very reminiscent of chainmail, but modernised with light armoured plates that has slots for the main armour pieces to fix into. Then, the main heavy plate armour goes on top with his iconic mask. Layered on that is his gold-lined green robe with a belt that sports his logo, and finally, the most important piece of all, his gigantic over-the-top cape.
It was very important for me to design the armour in these stages, so I really understood the physicality of it and how it could be made in real life. I wanted to make sure he had a lot of felixbility, while preserving the medieval knight look, so I pulled elements from Japanese samurai armour, and kept the robes royal but simple, in order to emphasise the grandure of the cape, since that is his statement of power over the people.
FINAL IMAGE
Finally, I took some stock photos and edited my final design into this snowy environment, as if Doom is watching over Latveria from the snowy mountain tops.
