I did not create that beautiful cover. Kati Ann Bilsborough did. But I love it so much and it deserves to be featured here.
An interior design of a book of activities. The author wanted it to look like a book of magical spells that a teacher could call on at will. After looking at several books of spells from medieval history and modern Wicca, I settled on a design that used Celtic ornaments and simple borders. I also found an amazing Harry-Potter inspired font for the title, chapter titles, the table of contents, and the folios. Honestly, I tried to put it everywhere, because I love it so much! It's called Lumos Latin.
For the other fonts, I wanted to find a font that looked like it came from the 16th or 17th century. I looked at a number of old-style serif fonts and settled on Sabon, which has a timeless look. I had been considering Accanthis or a font that had more of a stylized look, but Sabon is easier to read, particularly if you're a teacher consulting an activity book in the middle of class.

Then I wanted a font that was reminiscent of the Lumos Latin font, but more readable at a smaller scale so it could be used for subheadings and running heads. Perpetua was a fabulous choice.
I looked at a number of books of spells, some from fiction and from New Age shops, Many of them had a border and I thought it would be fun to add corner ornamentation. This Celtic decoration set jumped out at me and the connections between Celtic traditions, witchcraft, and Harry Potter are pretty strong.

We needed a clear way to introduce the lessons and also give teachers some vital information such as what level each activity targeted, what resources were needed, and the goal of the lesson. In many resource books, this is put into a table, but I found using small caps set that section apart fine. I also found that cute little ornament in the Minion Pro font.
