My theme is ‘Touch Starvation’ as a response to Covid. Due to the virus along with the whole world, I was confined to my home and isolated. My support system was my parents and sister. One day when I went to hug my mother and she refused I understood the importance of a single touch. As social creatures we survive on intimacy and the bonds of society. Our self esteem is often reliant on others and positive contact is necessary for us. The artworks were a form of catharsis and coping mechanism.
While being stuck in the same room for months on end, I gazed at the same view out of the window and thus created my first artwork which is a simple black and white pen illustration inspired by Mario Miranda. Establishing the tone, my second artwork called Frozen displayed the repetition of days and the hopeless feeling of claustrophobic using the color palette and duplication by Andy Warhol.
