Paulo Coelho, when he was young, was hospitalized three times by his parents because they said he was an “artist” and, according to him, that word, in Brazil under dictatorship, was synonymous such as homosexual, communist, drug addict, and vagabond. The stigma was crazy. While in the asylum, he realized that everyone was just as crazy as he was. And he decided to pursue a career as an artist, namely a writer. For years he kept the secret of having hospitalized, but eventually, he vented everything in this novel. Although the book is fiction, it is inspired on his own experiences.
