X-TAON - The Show Car - Exterior
"Let's do the next level X-Taon" - Substance
"You know... I've always wanted to see it move..." - a slightly naïve me


This was a pretty epic project with lots of challenges. I played light over the car surfaces  to suggest a location, showcasing the beauty of the form, reflective surfaces and materials.
The interior posed a new level of detail to try and reach. Highlight for me was exploring embroidery Decals and Stitch brushes in Substance 3D Painter, which made texturing a breeze. Some of the super closeup textures were exported at 8K to get that thread level crispness. 

Anaïs, Nico and the lovely Substance 3D Assets team provided the brief, moodboard and the keys to the excellent Substance 3D Asset Library, as well as lots of support and feedback along the way. Materials and colour selection by Anaïs.  Most of the X-Taon model was provided by Adobe, I just needed to upres and remodel some sections of the interior, steering and the wheel. Onur Durson did an awesome job of remaking a beautiful exterior body, with a great attention to detail as well as designing the new wheels. Special thanks also to Pierre M, Marine and Sebastian for their encouragement. And of course all the artists who created the materials, which I get the pleasure of showcasing. 

Shot in 4K in Unreal Engine 4.26, raytraced GI, reflections, transparency and shadows on an RTX 3090. Spatial AA was needed for convincing motion blur on the rims. Car was driven with a PS4 pad and Craft Director plugin for 3dsMax. Rectangle lights playing media texture videos. Tube lights were a BP with proximity activation for actors which I could animate.
