Imaginary Worlds Class Work

In this course, the goal was to build up an imaginary world using illustrative designs and concepts. The primary application I used was pencil, paper, and pen. The only digital piece crafted in this class was the beginning subject of taking "Spaceship", "Zombie", and "Wasteland" to build something using that word that is perhaps a bit different in concept to what one might think of.

The first one I will show is the digital illustration from the start of the class. The word I of course selected was "Wasteland".
This next piece was the start to our world building. We were given the task of taking a picture of a bridge and then reconstructing it into something in the land of imaginary. I wanted to incorporate an apocalyptic yet mystical feel with my drawing. IT was done entirely in pencil (colored) and pen. This will also be the only piece I did in this way.

I realized I didn't like the style of the colored pencils as it felt too muddy and was hiding detail I wanted to be seen. The next project we had to build a list of ideas and words that come together to build what our "world" would be like. Every assignment here has started as sketches that got improved in detail as we moved on.
I also realized that I no longer wanted to use humans as a character type in my world, so in the final submission of my world "Expanse" I opted to use entirely alien like creatures and anthropomorphic animals. This is where my only pen and pencil style starts. Additionally I got the opportunity to play around and test different texturing.
Up next was our Lines Points and Stories assignment. We were tasked with building two background concept arts that use the horizon line and vanishing points. Mine was very subtle in showing the elements of an imaginary world, but I feel that it helped build up the confusion and suspense of what my world was.
The last illustrative pieces I made for this class were to further build on the world and give information on it in greater detail. This was done through building a map of what my world would encompass, and character concept art done in a style reminiscent of a movie poster.
