Freedom Reads, a first-of-its-kind organization, uses literature to empower people by turning prison houses into libraries. Satellite Agency created a proprietary typeface and brand system that turns bars into bookshelves. The modular bookshelf type and book iconography suggest the power of literature to confront what prison does to the human spirit. The spencerian and bird illustrations add timelessness to the system's modern aesthetic, while embodying the organization's belief: dignity and Freedom Begin with a Book. The color system is inspired by the sky at various times suggesting transformation and optimism.
