Earlier this year, I was approached by Audra The Rapper, a female emcee who recently signed to Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group, to design both her logo and the artwork for her upcoming tape No Such Thing Does Exist. Today (7/11/11) marks the release of the tape presented by The Source, so here is the process behind the entire project.
For her logo, she wanted to be a representation of herself, including a headband she commonly wears and a type of Pocahontas type hair braid along with her name. For the final design, I went with something simple, using a style I've been toying with a couple months that is basically line-less only within certain areas.
For the cover, Audra wanted herself to be in a police line-up with a few creatures that are believed to "never exist" such as the Boogeyman, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, etc. Basically saying that her brand of emcee (female) is hardly existant in hip-hop without being a Nicki Minaj. I took some inspiration for the line-up from the movie The Usual Suspects and its poster and picked the most common "imaginary creatures" that would catch the viewer's eye.
