For Line
What is Line ?
Line is a communication app that allows you to call and text for free. Not so popular (yet) in Europe, it is on the other hand over-the-top popular in Asia. Cool thing about Line, it has a great collection of stickers, especially the Line ones. I adopted them immediately : my boyfriend is Brown, I'm Cony and we don't talk or write anymore … we just send stickers.
What is a Sticon ?
In the Line lexicon, there's a new family called Sticon which stands half way between stickers andemoticons. You can use them in the dialogue box or … as a sticker. It's a great tool for users but design them is a bit tricky 'cos it has to look good in small and in big.
I was really interested in creating new signs for people to play with. You can have a shallow view on it and say "it's only small stupid icons" but for me, it was about creating a language. Some sticons are meant to be taken literally (a pint of beer is … a pint of beer) but some got "double entendre" (find them!) and some are abstracts, letting people putting their own meaning in it. I think it's important giving space for interpretation and appropriation.

I had to create a classic line of "expression" sticons (a.k.a smileys). It was fun doing it but what I really enjoyed doing are the weird "stuffs" at the end of the set. They don't have a clear meaning or intention and i'm curious how people gonna use them ... or not !?!
