Exploring the relationship between form and function.

Figuring out the aesthetic, loose sketching, ideation and iteration.
I decided to go with a more simpler model as the baseline. I would than with the iteration of the clay model sculpt and slowly add more details to the concept.
Mk. 1
Evaluating Mk.1, I found it to be too basic. There were too many straight angles that lead to points sections of the model.

Mk. 2
Evaluating Mk. 2, I found that it didn't offer good protection on the sides of the person's helmet. It still had a quite basic look with a little bit of a funny form. I decided to keep exploring the 1st model.

Mk. 3
Though Mk. 3 was more aero-dynamic, I liked the idea of not having holes in the model. Though there was only one on the front and back, it is understandable to have ventilation for cyclists. A design should be made that integrates ventilation in an aesthetic way.

Mk. 4
With Mk.4 I found by just having one vent and increasing it in size did not exactly solve the ventilation problem of this design. Another great addition was cutting down the bottom back section of the model to allow more vertical head tilt.

Mk. 5
After having a revelation through talking with some fellow designers, I decided to switch up the design of the helmet so its connection with itself flowed much better. Mk. 5 was about to have an interesting redesign.

Mk. 6
An idea can be explored where the design of this helmet's curves can have integrated ventilation. Though, that doesn't help with the top part of the helmet. It is all too closed off.

Mk. 7
Kind of a simple solution to the problem. Kills the look of the helmet.

Mk. 8
A possibility of integrating the ventilation of into the first curve with more flare. Helmet shape is looking flow-y. Like a leaf in the wind.

Mk. 9
Creating more curves. Adding more features. Opening more ventilation.

Mk. 10
Protecting more of the back. Modifying the form. Feeling the function.

Mk. 11 (final)
Thank you.
This was a long one, so thank you again 🙏
