The Shorewood Kiwanis Harper Ford Woodie Logo

I was hired to do a logo design for The Shorewood Kiwanis Harper Charity Cruise.

The goal was to design a logo of a Ford Woodie in any year and any color.

The requirements were:
1. Logo must be Vector. (Adobe Illustrator Only)
2. All Fonts Must be Outlined.
3. Logo will be a 4 spot color printed on a color t-shirt
(2023 T-shirt logo shall be shown on a gold shirt)
4. A white field will need to be printed first, then the color logo on top.
5. Spot colors/PMS/Pantone colors only.

Also the required text had to have:
1. SHOREWOOD KIWANIS HARPER CHARITY CRUISE
2. 2023

Here's a little backstory on Kiwanis Club Charity Cruise.

For over two decades, there has been a charity cruise
on Harper Avenue, in St. Clair Shores.
All these years later we are still cruising and
still going strong! The Harper Charity Cruise
almost, always has been a Kiwanis event.
This event is modeled after other commercial cruises,
but with an eye toward charity and giving back to the community.
In 2005, Shorewood Kiwanis was approached to “take over”
the coordination and up-front funding of this important event.
As one of the larger Kiwanis clubs in St. Clair Shores, it was an
easy decision for us to step in and make sure that this very
important St. Clair Shores summer event continue on and grow.
Last yearʼs cruise was one of the highest attended events in years past.
Kiwanis is a global community of clubs, members and partners
dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time.

Before I started to build my Ford Woodie in Illustrator, I had to find reference photos of what a Ford Woodie actually looked like (I DO NOT OWN THESE PHOTOS OTHER THAN MY LOGO DESIGN.)
After finding my references it was now to start sketching out my Ford Woodie. I made a total of 15 thumbnail sketches.

After much needed decision, I decided to go with sketch #4.

I know most of my car sketches have faces on them, but that was just the direction I was going in. The client gave me complete freedom with my logo.
This is a bigger, cleaner sketch of Ford Woodie #4.

As you can see I made a few changes. I added street signs in the back and I closed up the mouth on the car.
This is the final logo of the Ford Woodie.

The Adobe font I used was Subway Berlin BC. I chose this font because it kind of looked like graffiti typography that you see on abandon building, it reminded me of my old neighborhoods.

I really like how the street signs came out, all I did was make circles, stretch them out evenly and then curve the edges.
Thank you so much for taking the time to view my project. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did making it.

Thank you! :)
