Honey Collection - for Gir Gir Collective

For it’s debut collection, Gir Gir collective partnered with a Northen Portuguese factory that produces honeycomb marble slabs for luxury projects. The factory had a lot of waste that would typically end up in landfills, and the collective saw this as an opportunity to create our first collection that is both ecologically and economically sustainable while using luxury materials. The pieces will be presented for the first time during the Paris Design Week 23, in Factory at Galerie Jospeh at Rue Turenne.

The collection features a strong industrial look, showcasing the "technical" aspect of the metal honeycomb that is usually hidden away. Gir Gir pays homage to the industrial technique itself that is typically kept behind the curtains to look like a normal marble slab. The contrast between the luxurious marble and the textured metal creates a visual and conceptual dichotomy, resulting in a unique collection.

As the collection is made from leftovers, Gir Gir cannot assure that the marble being sold today will be the same as tomorrow, as the whole collection is made from what the stone graveyard will give them. However, this adds to the charm and exclusivity of the pieces, as each one is truly unique.

Gir Gir’s Honey collection, not only supports sustainable practices but also creates one-of-a-kind designs that will make a statement in any space. This is not a new “message” but it’s one that the collective believes it’s one worth repeating.

ABOUT GIR GIR

The Gir Gir collective emerged uniting diverse talents with a common purpose: to transform industrial leftovers into beautiful and sustainable designs. Founded by Ana Rita Pires, André Teoman, Angela Costa Leal and Filipe Meira, Gir Gir partners with local industries, repurposing waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.
The core principle driving Gir Gir's creations lies in the beauty of repurposing. Each design emerges from materials at the end of their lifecycle, salvaged from an otherwise destined fate in the waste stream. The beauty of their pieces aligns perfectly with market trends, making them desirable and sought after, not just for what they look like but what they represent. These creations celebrate the beauty of repurposing, blending aesthetics with function. Through collaborative efforts, they promote a culture of sustainability and inspire change. Their designs, transportable and scalable, carry the message of conscious living to a global audience.
As advocates of innovation, Gir Gir challenges conventions and educates industries and consumers alike. Their vision extends beyond borders, empowering a global movement towards sustainable beauty and balance
