Foods that make Great House Cleaners
Are you out of your favorite cleaning solution? No need to fret about heading out to the store, just check the kitchen cupboards. There may be some great green cleaning supplies right inside your home. Read on to find how you can use foods in your home to help you clean.

Coffee Grounds to Scrub Pots
Get that tough caked on grime out of your cookware with the gentle scrubbing action of coffee grounds. Toss a handful of grounds into a pot and scrub away the gunk.

Coffee Beans to De-odorize
Have a rather pungent stink unpleasantly filling the air in your home? Grab some coffee beans. We really like using them in stinky shoes. Fill up a nylon sock with coffee beans or even coffee grounds and stick them in the shoes. The beans will absorb the odor while leaving behind the amazing scent of coffee.

Dust a Painting with Bread
The spongy fluffy material that bread is creates a soft and gentle way to clean a piece of original art without using harsh chemicals. Rub the bread very gently along the painting to remove dust then gently sweep any crumbs away.

The Power of Lemons
Lemon and other citrus fruits pack a punch when it comes to cleaning. Use a cut up lemon in a microwave-safe bowl of water to give the inside of the microwave steam. Heat the lemon soup on high until a nice steam forms on the walls and door and let sit for 15 minutes then gently wipe the grime away instead of scrubbing.

Lemon is amazing for cleaning cutting boards. Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle your wood cutting board with salt, and then rub the cut side along the board. When finished rinse with water.

Grind up lemon rinds in the garbage disposal to get rid of funky smells and have the whole kitchen smelling like bright cheery lemons. This trick is great with any citrus fruit really.

Clean a Vase with Rice
For those skinny vases you can’t get your hand into to, to scrub the bottom. Grab some rice and swish it around in the bottom with some water to loosen and get rid of gunk in the very bottom.

Vinegar is a Great All-Purpose Cleaner
Simple white vinegar works on a large number of surfaces in the home. It is a natural and safe disinfectant. You can clean many things including mirrors, windows, shower walls, counters, tile, the toilet bowl, etc. just be cautious before using on a new surface as there are some areas that you do not want to clean with vinegar like your hardwood floor. Make sure to look up if vinegar is safe on a specific surface before using it.

Mask Wood Scratches with Walnuts
See a small scratch in the hardwood floor? Don’t panic, just go to the snack cupboard and get out the walnuts. Rub a piece of walnut (outside of the shell of course) on the scratch to hide it. The oils in the walnut will help to darken the wood and mask the scratch.

Polish Up Stainless Steel with Olive Oil
If your kitchen sink or fridge is looking a little smudgy and dull bring it back to life with a light polish of olive oil. An added bonus: it can prevent water spots.
