2D Platformer Level Design: Dino Defense
When I first started to plan out my game I sketched out a level map to get an idea of how I wanted my game to function. I added the mechanics I wanted, such as moving platforms and checkpoints, to help envision how the game would play. I also zoned out the space in which the player would be able to traverse, as well as the zones the player would lose a life and respawn.
I then began to create the assets in Asprite. I started with the ground and initial had a much brighter vibrant color. I then ran into an issue with the color pallets not matching the feeling of the game so I went back in and darkened it up.
From there I created assets I could use in the background to help world build.
Once all of my assets were complete, I went into unity to start building out my level. After multiple trials and errors, I found that rewarding the player after achieving difficult battles or puzzles was the best way to play this game. After every obstacle I added in a checkpoint or a health kit.
