Four Corners: Music for Traffic (2022) is a site-specific, aleatoric composition in which four brass players respond to the sounds of a street intersection. Drawing on Pauline Oliveros’ practice of “deep listening” the piece does not compete with the surrounding soundscape, but seamlessly blends with it. Ambient and minimalist in its composition, "Four Corners" invites the listener to interrogate the distinction between the musical and nonmusical, and find beauty within the noise that surrounds us.
