Innovación en materiales (Textile innovation and experimentation)
En este apartado muestro algunas técnicas que indague para generar textiles no convencionales, todos utilizando materiales de descarte.
Creo que en una industria con tanta producción como la textil es esencial encontrar alternativas de menor impacto ambiental. Mirando hacia el futuro, me encantaría continuar estas investigaciones descubriendo nuevas técnicas, profundizando mi conocimiento sobre nuevas tecnologías para incorporar, y ampliar la variedad de descartes explorados.
Actualmente me encuentro desarrollando un proyecto de upcycling que, además, busca reutilizar botellas plásticas, por medio de la impresión 3D, para generar bordados, avíos y accesorios.

On some of my latest university projects I tried to incorporate the use of unconventional materials, all of which were considered waste, to create textiles.
It is my belief that, in an industry with such high levels of production as the textile and fashion industry, it is essential to find new alternatives with a lower environmental impact.
Looking towards the future, I would love to continue these investigations, discovering new techniques, deepening my knowledge on technologies to incorporate, and increasing the varieties of explored waste materials.
Currently, I am working on an upcycling project in which, in addition, I am exploring possible ways to recycle plastic bottles, through 3D printing, to transform them into embroideries and accessories.
Caucho | Cámaras para rueda de bicicleta
El Taller Bikes (@eltallerbikesolivos) me proporcionó las grandes cantidades de cámaras para bicicleta que solían descartar cada semana para poder investigar el material.
El proceso consistió en abrir y quitar el talco, para luego poder coser cada cámara y generar una pieza textil de gran tamaño, que posteriormente puede ser tratada como cuero o látex.
Es un material frío al tacto, pesado, fuerte, con una leve elasticidad, brillo y suavidad. A diferencia de lo que uno podría imaginar, es bastante confortable y va aumentando su temperatura a medida que está en contacto con la piel. Por esta razón se realizó un prototipo de una prenda de primera piel.

Rubber | Bicycle tires
A local bike shop (@eltallerbikesolivos) gave me the tires they usually discarded, to be able to experiment with this material. Large quantities of them are thrown away every week due to breakage and deterioration.
The process consisted on; opening and removing the powder, to later be able to sew each tire to generate a very large textile piece that can be treated as leather or latex.
This material is cold to the touch, strong, heavy, and has a slight elasticity, sheen and softness. In opposition to what one might expect, it is rather comfortable and it increases its temperature when in contact with the skin. This is why it was used to create a prototype aimed to be worn as a base or first layer.
Bolsas plásticas | Termofusión
En Argentina sigue siendo muy común el uso de bolsas plásticas. Muy pocas de ellas se reciclan.
A través de la termofusión busque darle una segunda vida a bolsas rotas que de otra manera hubiesen terminado en basurales.
Se trabajó a modo de textura y no de textil debido a que su plástico pierde gran parte de la flexibilidad al ser expuesto a altas temperaturas, y al superponerlo con otras capas del mismo material. Además se torna muy frágil.
Presenta una buena oportunidad para indagar en objetos accesorios.

Plastic bags | Thermofusion
In Argentina the use of plastic bags is still very common, and only a very small quantity of them is recycled.
Through thermofusion I tried to give broken bags a second life.
In the end it was used as a texture and not a textile because the plastic lost most of its flexibility when exposed to high temperatures and overlapped with more layers of the same material. It also became more fragile.
