Public restrooms are often associated with poor hygiene, vandalism and perversion – a place you visit only when absolutely necessary.  A well-designed public toilet creates a positive impression of the location – whether in a restaurant, mall, airport or hotel.  Similarly, clean and aesthetically pleasing public restrooms in parks and streets, leave the user with a positive opinion of the city as a whole.  For much of the 21st century, “cheap and durable” was the rule, but that trend is changing.
