Giftware Summer project

Graphics design level 3, project 3
Ripon craft fair
On this page, I started talking about the summer project. With gathering with my classmates to put all our research together and see everyone's findings. Seeing the common themes and things that made all of these businesses succeed.
We all focused on the shops/discoveries we have found, and the findings within them.

This was helpful since it points me in the correct direction to begin with, thinking of the advantages and disadvantages of methods these companies picked.
With all my writing I did for the summer holidays work, all this shows the differences of small businesses to corporate.
Including mood boards, which attempted to fit into the styles the business would try and fit into to.
Afterwards, I went onwards to viewing my audience, I hadn't picked my audience at the time, so at this point my options were open to anything. I went on to question what the word audience meant along with it's research and ways to appeal to that demographic,
This would've been useful in the future since of course I'd need to figure out a target demographic eventually. So this was useful to come back to.
Since I needed some inspiration for my hanging decoration and such, my next ideal move was to get inspiration from other artists and companies. Like Katherine Blower with her spooky illustrations to Rex London with it's creative and vast amounts of merchandise under certain themes like cats and space. It shows the vast amount of things you can make with just one idea.
This also encouraged me to go along with the ghost themes that you see in some of my final work.
Afterwards, I was encouraged to create some observational drawings of assorted things that i had brought in, which was a pocket watch, mask and a pendant, as for the other masks and mushrooms, I pulled them from pintrest to draw using assorted mixed medias, like pen, pencil, and assorted felt tips.
My personal favourite that I created was the green mushroom with the bunny mask, I never intended for these two to be together, yet the drawings seem to give a wonderland vibe.
Afterwards, we decided to create a wrapping paper, after all, we need to wrap these lovely hanging decorations in something! For inspiration, I looked back at my observational drawings I created to seek inspiration, as well as looking at repeat pattern artists.
For my wrapping paper I decided to take the drawing of the pocket watch, digitise it with the help of Ibis paint, and add some flowers to it, for added detail.
But before picking that wrapping paper, I went on to try an experiment with pattern making, with creating drawings, and cutting them in four different ways and seeing how we could create a whole new different pattern.
While it's pretty, I decided to stick with the repeat patterns.
Afterwards, me and my classmates went and put our ideas back together, from going over each-others ideas, and adding suggestions or explaining why these choices were a bad idea, it helped expand our horizons. For me, I was originally going to aim for vintage theming, however, I changed my mind and went forward with halloween, even if the merchandise would be around after October.
Before heading of to card design, we of course have to head to typography.
Typography is quite important since it helps with picking fonts, especially with spacing and theming.
I then continued onto the card design, Still sticking to the halloween theme, I went to use one of my Lino print designs as my base plate for the card, using the outline and then adding smoke and extra little details like stars and the house glowing.
For the font I wrote in some bubbly font, and went on to use the blur tool to make it blend slightly with the blackness around it.
And of course, here's the lino prints. For these pieces of work I created ideas for the boards, with one of them being used as the card design, as shown earlier.
After the board was created, I created two lovely prints, with one of them having a gradient.
My favourite thing about them is the scratchiness one has, it wasn't on purpose, but makes it more grungy.
For this project, we went on a trip to Liverpool to take a look at the Tate and shops surrounding it for ideas of merchandise and general art styles.
I was going in hoping to find some fitting inspiration, and I did find it with the two tone hand, it encouraged me to go along with the ghost theme, the trip was very enjoyable, and windy.
And finally I moved onto my hanging decoration research with the group crit. I hope I used all of there advice.
And of course I did the hanging decoration research, however, I couldn't find any artists which specifically focused on hanging decor.
So I went to the images section and took a good look at the vast amounts of hanging decoration you can get.
Final hanging decoration.
