Earlier attempts hadn’t met the client’s approval, so I was drafted in at short notice by the UK design agency to help, essentially working as an NZ-based ‘night studio’ for them. I pitched the concept as somewhere between the opening credits for a 1970’s Blake Edwards movie and Picasso’s Guernica. C’est pretentious, non? You’re right, it is a bit. But who cares; the client liked the idea and the final product, and the crisis was averted.
