Photo Diary: Jan 9-15, 2024
This is my first photo diary from my Creative 2 class at Algonquin College. Here are the images I have captured over the last week:
Image 1: Negative Space
Taken on January 9th 2024.
For this image, I tried capturing negative space in the windows at the Algonquin College Library. I had to crop the original image because of distracting elements and adjust the exposure afterwards because it was too bright for my liking. I took this image while Sam, the model was in her natural state. She was looking out the window and I told her to stay like that so I could grab the shot.
Image 2: Depth of Field
Taken on January 10th, 2024
This picture was taken while we were stopped in traffic. I captured this image because I loved all of the lights in the background of the rain-covered window. I took this picture with my iPhone and used the exposure tool to get the lighting and the focus point was supposed to be the raindrops, but I am not sure how well I was able to capture that.
Image 3: Rule of Thirds
Taken January 11th, 2024
I took this at a restaurant by my house, The Works (great food!!). I took this image because of the table, I loved the way the name of the establishment was engraved/ stained into the table, I found it cool. I took the picture with this angle because I did not want bystanders in my image, so because of the atmosphere, I did this angle and added the rule of thirds for my technique.
Image 4: Leading Lines
Taken January 12th, 2024
First off, I am sorry it is sideways. I do not know how to get it to rotate, so I apologize. I was trying to get pictures while on the highway and I learned that with my phone, this is difficult. You can not get great quality while moving 100 km/h. I tried adjusting the exposure and the night mode, but I could not get a great shot. The second image I took this week (DOF picture) was much better because we were stuck in traffic and not moving. I tried to get the focus on the signs, but it did not work very well.
Image 5: Simplicity
Taken January 13th, 2024
I tried to capture a simple image of a necklace I got for Christmas. It was difficult to try and get my iPhone to focus on the cross and not the wall itself, but I think I did a good job of shifting the focus. I also had to play around with the shadows of the cross and my phone, but I managed to not get any shadows in my image, which I think makes the image more simple and adds to it.
Image 6: Black and White
Taken on January 14th, 2024
My little cousin (smaller one) was over for a couple of days, so I took him and my brother (taller one) out for a walk to get some images of them. I love this picture in black and white because it brings the focus to their faces. They were wearing bright clothing and it brought the focus away from their faces, which was not my original hope for this image when I took it.
Image 7: Animal Photography
Taken January 15th, 2024
I took this picture on a Sony camera my mom had given me for Christmas. I wanted to try and get better pictures with my dog, Marner, but he is still a puppy and very hyperactive. This is the only image I could get of him still. I think this picture captures emotion more than anything, love to be exact. The bond that these two have is incredible and I think I did a good job capturing it, considering my dog would not settle.
Conclusion: This project was really fun, I loved the freedom we had with it and being able to show some of my everyday views with my professor is nice as well. I need to still work on taking pictures of people and animals. I also learned that your phone can not be used for everything because it has a mind of its own. I can not wait to start using my Christmas gift more throughout the next semester!
