This artwork delves into the concept of an afterlife, a realm of infinite unknowns. When I see perfect beauty that is inaccessible to humans, such as nature, I am overwhelmed by the unreality of the situation and feel both wonder and fear. The goal was to capture the grandeur and complexity of this imagined afterlife. I crafted intricate, natural objects, decorative patterns, and fairy-like human figures.
Process
My focus was on line quality and mark making, aiming to evoke the fantasy of an undefined, never-seen world. This was symbolized through flatness, reflecting the vague and fleeting nature of dreams. The artwork lacks realistic details, emphasizing its otherworldly character. The composition primarily centers on landscapes, with larger, surreal figures and elements like oversized leaves and airborne fish in later pieces, creating a sense of wonder and highlighting the dreamlike theme.
