Honored to be a part of Hero Complex Gallery’s Popeye 85th Anniversary art show curated by chogrin opening tomorrow night! Here are some shots of the two 2-Color Screenprints I’ve created for the show that were printed by The Half & Half. Called, “Battle of the Century,” it is a limited edition set of 50 - 35 printed on French Paper Grout Gray and 15 printed on French Paper Steel Blue. I was inspired by the original Fleischer Studio Cartoons from the late 30's in creating these two-color prints. All of the assorted gags the animators came up with were so fun and inventive and I wanted to capture that here.

 

Here are some process shots of sketches and pencils leading up to the final inking and then the screenprints as they arrived in the mail. The Half & Half did another really good job rendering these colors on the different papers chosen, I can't recommend them enough!
