Illustration For The Stranger

This was a brief from the Seattle based magazine, The Stranger for their monthly column Play Date. The idea was to show a group of student aged folks running around looking partly lost with compass and maps in hand.
The prompt was fairly straight forward so getting the right composition was really the only challenge to figure out. Seeing as the article took place at Seattle Pacific University, I used a variety of SPU locales as backdrops.
Once the AD had decided on the first composition, I was able to go to work creating the shapes in Procreate. The only final adjustment I made was to switch the direction of action to be moving from left to right as it felt like it flowed better that way.
This was a fun project and an interesting read too! Orienteering actually sounds like a fun activity. I love learning about new things when I illustrate for publications.
Thanks for having a look! Feel free to reach out to collaborate or just say hi. (jayveegeedesign@outlook.com)
