Gage Industries is a fictional biotechnology company set in the near future. The name is based on Phineas Gage, a railroad construction foreman who miraculously survived after an iron rod shot through his skull during a demolitions accident. His case is important to the fields of neuroscience and psychology, as it shows the ways damage to parts of the brain can affect behavior. The fictional Gage Industries uses these principles to create biotechnology that "benefits" humanity. Their principles were based off the dystopias of 1984 and
Brave New World.
