Pado - The Curse of Kieran ~

What is "Pado, The curse of Keiran" ?

Pado, the curse of Keiran is a narrative experience in a cute world. This is a mix between a point and click and a visual novel. Follow the underwater adventures of Pado and find the memories of his friends.

This game is for PC and the player interact and progress through it with dialogues, choices but also, finding items. The game has two major endings and multiple minor endings.

This is a personal project made in 10 days to challenge myself and learn new things !

The idea for the environmental arts and backgrounds are quite simple. There is no lineart in the backgrounds. It creates a visible and clear contrast with the characters and assets present in the game. The lineart elements are the ones the player can interact with.

About the colors I chose to work with a lot of different layers and different opacity to play with transparency in order to obtain a better representation of the water. The corruption is present during the majority of the game.

Therefore, to represent it, I used a lot of green and orange to highlight the rotten characteristic of Keiran but also to make Pado stand out more from the different backgrounds.
For the UI design, I stood close to the design of Pado. I wanted a simple and clear design focused on the visibility of the important elements of the game.

I chose a cartoony childish fonts easy to read and I avoided any angle in my entire interface idea. Since Pado can glow in the dark, most of the elements the player can interact with will glow when the cursors is on it.

For the colors, I took the 3 basic ones from Pado. A brown a blue and a pale yellow. To help the visibility of most elements, I drew some curvy shapes inspired by the mouvement of the flow of the sea. It helps to support important actions or interactions in the interface and during the game. To make it all more apealing, I drew coral and seaweed shapes with little bubbles and I used them to frame my menus and as a decorative element.
