"Атлас загублених королівств"
Хто хоч трохи знає історію України, той неодмінно чув про них — запорозьких козаків, вільних хоробрих воїнів, що не корилися можновладним сусідам, а хотіли будувати власну незалежну державу. Для цього вони обрали унікальну місцину — розлогі плавні Дніпра на півдні сучасної України, що мали назву Великий Луг. Тут знайшли дім сім із восьми Запорозьких Січей — укріплених осередків Війська Запорозького. 1958 року ці безцінні історичні землі були майже повністю затоплені при побудові Каховського водосховища. Одначе нова історична катастрофа вивільнила їх з-під води, не минуло й 70 років...
Мала нагоду проілюструвати розворот до книги "Атлас загублених королівст" Емілі Гокінс. Ця ілюстрація була для мене особливою, оскільки я добре пам'ятаю емоції від новини про знищення Каховської ГЕС 6 червня 2023 року російськими окупантами.

"Atlas of the Lost Kingdoms"
Anyone who knows a little bit about the history of Ukraine has certainly heard of them - the Zaporozhian Cossacks, free brave warriors who did not obey their powerful neighbors but wanted to build their own independent state. To do this, they chose a unique place - the sprawling floodplains of the Dnipro River in the south of modern Ukraine, called Velykyi Luh. Seven of the eight Zaporozhian Sichs, the fortified centers of the Zaporozhian Army, found their home here. In 1958, these invaluable historical lands were almost completely flooded during the construction of the Kakhovka Reservoir. However, a new historical catastrophe released them from the water, less than 70 years later...
I had the opportunity to illustrate a spread for the book "Atlas of the Lost Kingdoms" by Emily Hawkins. This illustration was special to me cause I remember well the emotions of the news of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on June 6, 2023, by the Russian occupiers.
