We learnt to play checkers for the first time, on a quiet, sunny afternoon on the trampoline.
The checkers set was won by one of us during a game in our annual apartment republic day celebrations. Tears were shed and frowns were put on in disappointment, by the ones who failed to win. The frowns were replaced by smiles as we decided to all sit down and figure out the rules of the game together.
Under the warm sun, sprawled out on the trampoline, we began our journey into the world of checkers.
