Photography Project - “Peace and Sorrow”
Through my final project for this photography course, I aimed to capture the essence of solitude and freedom in the city of Barcelona. I wanted to create images that have a sense of peace, tranquility and sorrow among the chaos of urban life.
To achieve this, I decided to use an effect that is associated with film photography as it adds a timeless and nostalgic quality to my images. I spent time walking around the city exploring different neighborhoods, looking for interesting subjects, characters, and compositions that would convey the themes of solitude and freedom. Of course, the choice, I made, of capturing people in very different life circumstances also adds up to my aim of creating a scene with a very wide spectrum of contexts that it contains, which also leads to creating a certain unsettling feeling from it, even though every photograph separately is much more still and calm on its own.
I focused on capturing solitary moments in simple inanimate objects, urban landscapes and, of course, people. Additionally, I took advantage of the sunny days in Barcelona by playing with light and shadow to create visual depth and dimension in my photographs. Overall,my project conveys a sense of peace and freedom, highlighting the weight of solitude in a city like Barcelona.
