The Japanese word 'Koi', also used to identify the Japanese carp, describes love for the opposite sex, a feeling of longing for a specific person. It can also described a "romantic love" or a "passionate love" but it is certainly an egoistic one, selfish and possessive. The other word for love, 'Ai', refers instead to a pure and uninterested feeling.
'Koi' is always wanting. 'Ai' is always giving.
