A Very Kompleks Ribbon Cropping

Client: Kompleks Creative
Company: Kompleks Creative
Role: Creative Direction, Copywriter

After making the move to the heart of Durham, we wanted to make our presence (and competitiveness) known through an official ribbon cutting — redubbed "ribbon cropping."

In honor of print production and the event itself, we exposed common printer's marks and allowed some typographic details to extend beyond the edge.

Through language, we combined the essence of our studio — where the color red, energy drinks and boldness are crucial to our brand — with the importance of our new location on Parrish Street in downtown Durham — also called "The Bull City."

Historically, Parrish Street was known as the "Black Wall Street," where African American businesses significantly contributed to the city's economic growth and development. Fast forward years later, Kompleks Creative — a black-owned design firm — finds itself building the brands of local restaurants, tech startups and institutions with global reach, all of which are key to Durham's culture, livelihood and growth.
